Manual DreamBox SE

Access modes
Normal

In order to use "Normal" access mode the DreamBox SE RJ45 cable is required. The handset has to be connected directly to the data port without disassembling.

The following DBSS options from the Flash tab are available while using the Normal access mode:

1. "Read Phone Info"
2. "Upgrade CID"
3. "Read Phone Internal Diagnostic log"
4. "Unlock by patch"

"Enable Firmware Patching" and other options require "Security Bypass" access mode to be applied.

DCU-60

DreamBox provides an opportunity of multiflashing, i.e. working with numerous handsets simultaneously. The phones have to be connected to PC USB/USB HUB using DCU-60, the standard SE USB data cable. The separate DBSS interface has to be run for each connected phone. In this case, the DreamBox works as a dongle and is only required for DBSS to be active.

The following DBSS options from the Flash tab are available while using "DCU-60" access mode:

1. "Read Phone Info"
2. "Upgrade CID"
3. "Read Phone Internal Diagnostic log"
4. "Unlock by patch"

In order to use other options, the "Security Bypass" access mode is required.

Test Point

In order to apply the "Test Point" access mode, the DreamBox Test Point cable is required. This mode is meant to be used to turn the phone into "Security Bypass" state. The procedure has to go through the Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the "Execute "Security Bypass" Operations":

* Stage 1. Phone prepare.
* Stage 2. Enter "Security Bypass" state.

As soon as the "Execute "Security Bypass" Operations" are completed, the handset will not require the "Test Point" connection to be performed anymore. Use "Security Bypass" mode instead.

Security Bypass

This access mode is available after the "Execute "Security Bypass" Operations" are completed. With "Security Bypass" mode all service functions are available, except "Upgrade to CID52" and operations from the "Flash" tab, which are available using "Normal" and "DCU-60" access mode.

Operations
Flash tab

All operations from the "Flash" tab are available using "Normal" or "DCU-60" access mode.

Write Selected Firmware parts

This option allows selecting specific parts of the firmware to be flashed into the phone.

Write FOTA

FOTA is an acronym for Firmware Over-the-Air. It is used for upgrades of mobile phones and PDAs.

Normally the phone owner has to go to a specific service center (every mobile brand has their own) to get a firmware upgrade. Or some phone models can be upgraded by connecting the phone via data cable to the PC. But, both methods are considered inconvenient by consumers and also depend heavily on consumers to seek out the upgrade, and therefore the majority of mobile phone manufacturers and operators have now adopted FOTA technology for their handsets. If the mobile phone has FOTA capability, the user can download the firmware upgrade directly from the mobile phone. It also allows manufacturers and operators to "push out" firmware upgrades, to ensure that mobile consumers have the latest software improvements, which helps reduce customer support costs and increase consumer satisfaction. The process typically takes between 3 and 10 minutes, depending on the size of the upgrade file and the speed of the wireless connection.

Enable Firmware Patching

This function has to be used to patch the firmware during flashing the handset with "clear" (not patched) flash file. Also, it allows flashing the phone with already "patched" firmware.

In case of marking the option "Enable Firmware Patching" the following option "Auto-Patch : Remove SIM-Locks" becomes active and the "clear" flash file can be modified with the "Remove SIM-Locks" patch.

The specified above feature can be used for the handsets with CID52 only. If the phone’s CID version is lower, then it can be upgraded to the version 52 using "Upgrade to CID52" option of the "Misc" tab.

"Upgrade to CID52" option is available using "DCU-60" mode only.

Auto-Patch: Remove SIM-Locks

This function modifies a "clear" (not patched) firmware with the "Remove SIM-Locks" patch. It’s available when the "Enable Firmware Patching" option is marked. "DCU-60" access mode is required in this case.

Write Main Firmware

This option allows writing to the phone a part of the flash file, which contains main firmware, executive code and data.

Write File System

Allows to flash the file system (language pack, pictures, sounds, animation, settings, etc) to the phone.

Write Customization Package & CDA

Writing files responsible for the finalization of the flashing process and saving of the main settings that are required for the correct phone functions. If this operation was not performed after the file system flashing, some of the phone functions may be inaccessible or disordered. Also, writing or the Customization pack allows replacing original handset media content (sounds, pictures, games etc).

CDA defines the handset's region and thus the firmware that is loaded to the phone. Also, CDA contains some phone customisation data. The correct CDA value is required for online firmware upgrades.

Write User CDA

If the option "Write User CDA" is marked, then the phone will be flashed with the CDA value that is selected by the user.

If the option "Write User CDA" is not marked, then the handset will be flashed with the CDA value from the selected customization file.

The correct CDA value is required for online firmware upgrades and proper handset functions.

Security tab
Execute "Security Bypass" Operations

The bypassing of the protection has to be performed using the "Test Point" access mode. As soon as the "Security Bypass" operations are performed, the handset can be served using the "Security Bypass" access mode. No more "Test Point" connection will be required for that specific phone.

Stage 1: Install "Security Bypass" Pre-Loader

During the executing of the Stage 1, the special part of the firmware will be loaded to the phone. So the handset is ready for the Stage 2.

Stage 2: Put Phone into "Security Bypass" Mode

During the Stage 2, the phone’s CID gets automatically upgraded to the version CID52 (CID is the value of protection level that is currently installed to the phone). "Test Point" connection is required for both (1 and 2) stages.

Unlock and Repair GDFS Security Blocks

After "Unlock" process all "SIM-Lock" flags will be removed, all master codes will be reset to "0000000000000000" and user lock will be reset to "0000".

Also, during the "Repair GDFS" procedure, all blocks get checked for the available errors and will be corrected if any.

"Security Bypass" access mode is required.

Upgrade to CID52

This option allows upgrading the phone CID version from CID49/CID51 to CID52. The upgrade operation can be performed using "Normal" or "DCU-60" access mode only.

Misc tab
Read Full Flash

This option allows creating a backup of the phone full flash. Full flash contains all parts of the firmware including "Main", "FS" and "GDFS".

"Security Bypass" access mode is required.

Write Full Flash

This option allows flashing the phone with full flash file. Full flash contains all parts of the firmware including "Main", "FS" and "GDFS".

"Security Bypass" access mode is required.

Read GDFS

This option allows creating a backup of the "GDFS". "GDFS" – part of the handset firmware that contains phone calibrating data, service settings, phone book, SMS parameters, organizer etc. Also, GDFS contains a copy of the IMEI that has to be identical with the IMEI in OTP.

"Security Bypass" access mode is required.

Write GDFS

This option allows flashing the phone with GDFS file. "GDFS" – part of the phone firmware that contains calibrating data of the phone, service settings, phone book, SMS parameters, organizer etc. Also, GDFS contains a copy of the IMEI that has to be identical with the IMEI in OTP.

"Security Bypass" access mode is required.

Make User Defined Customization Package

This option allows converting of the Customization Package into a *.dta file.

Can be performed using any available access mode.

Read Phone Internal Diagnostic Log

This option allows reading advanced phone information, detect and analyze available firmware errors.
